MULTIMODAL MEANS OF EXPRESSING THE CONCEPT “FEAR” IN THE CORPUS OF PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLERS AND ENTERTAINING CARTOONS FILM TEXTS (CPTECFT)

Анотація

This article deals with the investigation of multimodal means of expressing the concept “FEAR” in the created Corpus of Psychological Thrillers and Entertaining Cartoons Film Texts (CPTECFT). The research is conducted in the frame of the anthropocentric paradigm due to the methods of the linguo-cognitive and corpus analyses. Emotional concepts, reflected in the minds of speakers through a combination of verbal and non-verbal means, have been analyzed taking into account the multimodal nature of their actualisation. The choice of material for the research is determined by the possibility of interpreting linguistic and non-linguistic components in the context of communicative situations. The basic functions of AntConc corpus analysis programme were applied, which helped identify the name of the concept “FEAR”, investigate its nominal field, determine the nature of its associative zone, calculate the number of the most frequent lexical units for expressing the concept in a language and consider the characteristic non-verbal means of its representation, namely gestures, mimics, physical and physiological expressions. Thus, the structure of the concept “FEAR”, including its conceptual, figurative, value-based and significant components, has been envisaged as well as the peculiarities of interaction of its verbal and nonverbal expression in these two genres have been researched. The usage of corpus research methods enabled us to analyze a large volume of material, improve the accuracy of calculations and draw conclusions regarding the multimodal means of expressing the concept “FEAR” in the film texts of psychological thrillers and entertaining cartoons without considering the subjective opinion of researchers.
